Itinerary

Phillip Island, located 140 km southeast of Melbourne, is home to over 7,000 people and hosts diverse animal species. Despite its small size, the island features significant areas of natural beauty with a focus on scientific, historical, and archaeological interests.
The drive from Melbourne to Phillip Island takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Upon arrival, a Phillip Island Nature Parks Ranger will greet you for a guided walk through the Koala Reserve. A presentation will be given about the Koalas, the Reserve’s history and significance, and the last remaining area of natural woodland on the island.
The Yalloc Bulluck, a large clan of the Bunurong people, used to hunt, fish, and forage on Phillip Island. They would come to the island during Summer and ‘egging season’. The area was popular because of its abundant wildlife. Today, evidence of their foraging remains at the Penguin Parade and within the Summerlands National Park. Phillip Island Nature Parks is actively working to educate visitors and protect these culturally significant areas.
Upon your arrival at Summerlands, it becomes evident that no residential structures are present. This section of the island is entirely dedicated to the National Park. Observe the quaint wooden, artificially constructed burrows where penguins, not engaged in their daily fishing, seek shelter. Our journey includes a stroll on the boardwalks at ‘The Nobbies,’ where we endeavour to glimpse Little Penguins within their burrows. The pathways lead to ‘The Blowhole,’ a spectacular site where ocean waves forcefully meet the dark, volcanic stone. The ruggedly scenic peninsula, marked by caves and rock formations, offers stunning photographic opportunities against the background of Seal Rocks. You may even witness Australian Fur Seals luxuriating in the sunlight on bright days. Alternatively, if you prefer not to traverse the boardwalks, the Nobbies Information Centre welcomes you. You can explore the gift shop, enjoy a warm beverage, or engage with the ‘Antarctic Journey Experience.’ For an additional $18 per person, the Antarctic Journey Entry provides a captivating exploration of the diverse marine life from the Southern Hemisphere. As a World Wildlife Fund attraction, your admission fee contributes directly to conserving and protecting these magnificent denizens of the deep Southern Ocean.
Leaving the Nobbies, we begin our off-road excursion with stunning views and chances to spot Wallabies. Your guided tour will enhance the excitement of spotting wild Little Penguins, offering information about their distinctive behaviours and characteristics, including the fact that they have over 3000 feathers.
