Cost:                      Departing Wangaratta for Milawa and return Wangaratta $30/bike (30km to 50km                             depending on route) min 2 persons

Grab a bike and visit cellar doors, local producers, breweries and drop into a cafe or restaurant for a coffee and a refuel along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail.

Simply cycle at your own pace whilst sampling and collecting goodies from farm ates, cafes and providores. Stop to sample wine or local produce and meet the locals who helped to grow and make it.

Suggested itinerary:

  • Starting in Wangaratta head South along the flat rail trail. Pass by fields, cows and a small lavander farm
  • Arrive at Sam Mirandah winery and stop for a refreshing sample of whites and reds. Consider stopping for lunch? to early? keep going…
  • Pop into John Gehrigs in Oxley and peruse the menu of wines. We like the dry and unsweetened Riesling but its all good here.
  • Just round the corner is Oxley Estate, try the sweet wine after sampling the whites and reds – mmm feeling hungry by now…
  • Cyle to Milawa past more cows, fields and an old brick 3 storey barn.
  • Turn right to Brown Brothers, mayabe stop for a 2 or 3 course lunch with matched wine before sampling the extensive wine tasting menu. Stock up on Brown Brothers produce of jams and other treats?
  •  Just 2 minutes up the road pop into Milawa Mustards and sampe the amazing mustards from Honey to Rosemary to chilli and more.
  • Next door is the olive and gift shop… mmm olives.
  • Cycle up the road to Milawa Cheese Company and Wood Park wines. After sampling and a few purchases maybe have a sweet treat or a coffee before heading back to Wangaratta or calling River Tribe for a shuttle.

                          Add a Milawa cheese platter and a couple of Prosecco Piccolos in an easy ice                              cooled back pack for $45

Suggested itinerary:

  • Meet in Wangaratta and hop into River Tribes troopy for a transfer up to Beechworth
  • Start at the top of Beechworth and explore the shops and producers like Beechworth Honey, Bridge Road Brewers.
  • Pop into Project 49 and pick up a picnic made up of italian bits n bobs or stopin at one of the many great eateries
  • From Beechworth you could cycle up to Haldon Winery for a tasting (they do postage for any purchases).
  • Cycle down hill along the rail trail past little creeks, distant hills and gums tree dotted fields of cowns and sheep
  • Pull into Pennyweight winery (about 20 minutes down the rail trail fro Beechworth) and taste the spectacular wines from the bio-dynamic vineyard (postage options are available for any purchases). 
  • Leaving Pennyweight behind continue down hill, maybe you take your feet off the pedals as the wind blows past you, you could put the break on or you could try to get up to 40km hour as you travel down the trail.
  • If you brought a picnic stop and picnic under a tree, with a view, enjoy the stillness, company and food
  • Back on the trail for more down hill fun, pull up at Everton or Tarrawingee station for a half way rest and drink
  • Hop back on the pedals and head to Wangaratta (another 20km) along the flatter part of the rail trail, here you will pedal past many fields, cows, sheep and Australian native birds n bees
  • If your not inclined to go the full distance you could call River Tribe for a lift back to your car. The option if there for a small additional fee of $35/guest. It takes about 15 minutes for River Tribe to drive out to meet you and pick you up. 

PEDAL FOR PICNIC - SANDY CREEK BRIDGE

Tour Name:                 Pedal for Picnic – Sandy Creek Bridge    
Time Allowed:              No restrictions here, enjoy the ride and get back before the bats come out
Distance:                  10-40km to the bridge and then up to a 30km option to Wodonga

Departure Times:           09:30am with alternative times available
Grade:                     Easy to moderate and suitable for all abilities with a general fitness ability
For:                       Everyone from 12 and up
Notes:                     Support vehicle provided

This picture perfect trail follows lake hume from tallangatta to wodonga, a stunning ride, well maintained trail with amazing views of the water, hills & natural grass lands. river tribe adventures provides transportation to and from the trail along with multiple exit points along the route.

sandy creek bridge tour – self guided – day tour this tour takes you to one of the most iconic cycle bridges in australia. river tribe transport you and you bike (bike is hire available) to tallangatta. here you can take a look around town before heading out on the trail. enjoy the trail as it follows the hume dam with views of rolling hills, open pasture and along the way you may spot a few eagles or maybe a wedge tail.

Stop at the sandy creek bridge where river tribe provide you with a local produce picnic with drinks and the perfect view. after your picnic you can continue along the trail until you reach wodonga or end at one of the reserves along the way. River Tribe provide cycle hire, picnic, drinks transportation to and from wangaratta or beechworth.
